Samsung could bring full-screen fingerprint sensor to its future foldables

Under the hood, Samsung is working on the bring new compatibility to its future foldable smartphones. Samsung could bring full-screen fingerprint sensor to its future foldable smartphone, with Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The Korean brand is just a week away from debuting its sixth-generation, Galaxy Z Fold 6 & Galaxy Z Flip 6 at the Galaxy Unpacked event on 10th July in Paris. On the other hand, the giant is working on bringing one of the most convenient facilities, a full-screen under-display fingerprint sensor.

Samsung could bring full-screen under-display sensor to future foldable.

The Korean giant is one of the leading brands in the foldable industry, despite that it lacks a common feature called under-display sensor.

Samsung introduced its initial foldable called Galaxy Fold back in 2019. From then to now the coming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, each model has a side-mounted capacitive sensor embedded into the power button.

Finally, the brand has acknowledged this lack, as the report suggests that Samsung is working on bringing an under-display fingerprint sensor. This is being speculated by a post on X shared by a tipster. He suggested Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the first rollable might come with a full-screen fingerprint recognition feature.

The patent document suggests its applications across a wide range of display products, this will be beneficial for foldable and rollable smartphones.

Why Samsung should bring a full-screen under-display fingerprint sensor

The Korean giant has already debuted a dozen foldable phones but has yet to offer under-display fingerprint recognition.

However, the report suggests that Samsung is gearing up to bring a fingerprint recognition sensor. But in our opinion, the company should bring a full-screen fingerprint sensor. Since a confined sensor is not enough convenient for the big screens on these devices.

It sounds much more comfortable if we can unlock the device by placing our fingers anywhere on the screen, instead go to the power button of a particular place.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could bring an in-display fingerprint sensor

The company is this close to announcing Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphones within nine days. So obviously these devices are out of the list to bring this compatibility.

After these, the Galaxy Z Fold will be next in the line, if the brand continues this series, so it could bring this feature. It will be interesting to see whether this report will come true.
