Samsung ends software support for Galaxy A42 5G

Today the Korean tech giant releases the December 2024 Security Maintenance Release, in which the company details the December security patches and removes an A-series smartphone from software support. The Galaxy A42 5G device has been removed from software support, so it will not receive any monthly updates.

Galaxy A42 5G Software Update Policy

The Galaxy A42 5G was launched back in 2020 with 2 major updates and a 4-year security support policy. The device was shipped with Android 10, and then it received its two major upgrades in the form of Android 11 and 12, respectively. Also, the A42 5G completed its four years of security software support cycle.

But sometimes, if a critical bug or issue appears in Samsung’s old devices, Samsung updates them even after software support ends. That’s why Samsung is one of the best smartphone makers who prioritises the security of its products.

The Galaxy A42 5G was a mid-range smartphone that was equipped with the Snapdragon 750 5G chipset. The device comes with a quad rear camera setup, including 48MP, 8MP, 5MP, and 5MP sensors. It sports a Super AMOLED display with a 5000 mAh battery.

Galaxy M42 5G and F42 5G

Moreover, the Galaxy M42 5G and F42 5G were both in 2021, so they are eligible for one more year of security support. However, Samsung places these smartphones in a biannual security frequency.
