Galaxy S20 receives January 2025 update in the US and Korea

Following the Galaxy Note 20, the Galaxy S20 series devices also started getting the January 2025 update. The update for both devices is rolling out in the US and home country. The Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra are receiving the new OTA update after three months; last time they received the October 2024 security patches.

Galaxy S20 January 2025 update

Samsung is pushing the new firmware update for both locked and unlocked units in the US. Carrier-locked Galaxy S20 users are receiving it with build versions G981USQSCHXL1, G986USQSCHXL1, and G988USQSCHXL1, for the Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra, respectively. The OTA update is delivered in a download package of 307.44 MB. On the other hand, the unlocked units are getting it with firmware versions G981U1UESCHXL1, G986U1UESCHXL1, and G988U1UESCHXL1.

Meanwhile, Korean users can identify the update with build versions G981NKSS7IYA1, G986NKSS7IYA1, and G988NKSS7IYA1 for the S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra, respectively. The January update includes more than 50 Android security patches to address vulnerabilities, in which Google has provided fixes for 5 critical and 25 high-level vulnerabilities, and Samsung adds 22 patches for its Galaxy devices applications and services.

However, these updates are released in batches and will not be available simultaneously on every model, so if your device is not showing the update yet, wait for some time; it will arrive soon.
