Samsung SMR: January 2025 security update

We are in the second week of 2025, and Samsung released the first SMR of the year, offering details of the January 2025 security patch.

The SMR includes patches from both Google and Samsung to fix several vulnerabilities and bugs that were spotted in the last version.

Apart from the listed CVE items Samsung has also mentioned all the Galaxy devices that are eligible to receive the latest January 2025 security patch. Unfortunately, three devices are not on the list.

Samsung removed these devices from SMR

  • Galaxy A12
  • Galaxy A02s
  • Galaxy W21 5G

This means that these three device will no longer receive any software upate. Samsung has its own software policies according to which it releases software updates to its smartphones. Based on the policies these three devices lost their software support.

Apart from this, recently Samsung also released Beta 3 of One UI 7, which brings the January security patch for Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra units in limited markets.
